By Colleen Hoover
Summary: At twenty-two years old, Sydney has a great life: She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her best friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter’s cheating on her–and she is left trying to decide what to do next.
Sydney becomes captivated by Ridge, her mysterious neighbor. She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to the passionate way he plays his guitar every evening out on his balcony. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one…
There’s something about Maybe Someday, by Colleen Hoover, that just flails me every time I read it. I’m not sure if it’s the music, which is a character in itself, or the love and integrity that shines through on every page. Maybe it’s the way the book leaves me thinking about at what point a person sacrifices their soul mate to keep a promise, to wait for the maybe someday that might happen too late or not at all.
I’m convinced that Hoover doesn’t have it in her to write a bad book. I’ve read quite of few of hers, all of them soul-searching, gut-wrenching love stories. She digs down deep to tell her story and almost never uses sex to tell it. Ridge and Sydney’s story is no different.
In a way, this is tough to review. I could give you summary of story, but you can read that above. Details will take away from your experience. I could tell you how music plays such a huge part of the story-it’s the way that Ridge and Sydney use to communicate their feelings for each other-but I’d rather you listen for yourself:
I could tell you how Maybe Someday is written with two distinct voices in alternating POV, how Ridge suffers not only as he falls in love while in love with another, but how he struggles to do the right thing. How Sydney tries not to become the one thing she hates more than anything. How their first kiss made me gasp as I was reading. Or how watching Ridge and Sydney fall in love touches your heart in a lasting way. But I won’t. Instead, I’d encourage you to read the book yourself. Listen to the soundtrack, which is full of beautiful acoustics.
Maybe Someday is a must read for lovers of NA romance. It’s a 5 star book on Amazon with almost 3,000 reviews, which is almost unheard of.
