Where to start?
Should I start with a warning?
—Finding Kyler deals with a romance between family members.
Maybe I should mention that it ends on a cliffhanger?
–It ends on a whopper of a cliffhanger.
Should I warn you that you’ll find yourself invested in not one Kennedy brother, but desperate to know what’s going on with every Kennedy brother?
–Beware, you’re going to want to know what’s going on with every Kennedy brother.
I don’t read much young adult these days, but I do have a couple of authors that do YA well that I love. Penelope Douglas for one. Tijan is fantastic. And, now, I can add Siobhan Davis to my short list. Finding Kyler is everything you could want in YA Contemporary Romance/Family Drama.
This first installment in the Kennedy Brothers series introduces the totally effed-up Kennedy family that rules the small town of Wellesley, Massachusetts. These brothers are moody and angry and each one is harboring a secret that you want to know right now. I felt like a kid in a candy shop as I read, wanting everything. Immediately. And, I haven’t even mentioned Mom and Dad Kennedy, who are holding some cards close to their chest, especially Dad, who’s holding the ace of spades.
But, Finding Kyler is cousins Faye and Kyler’s story. Faye is suddenly orphaned and sent to live with an uncle she never knew existed. Leaving Ireland is bad enough, but when she’s thrust into the middle of the Kennedy family, life becomes a roller-coaster of emotions and drama. Faye is easy to like, a no-nonsense young woman who sets the moneyed people of Wellesley on their heads. Kyler is not happy to welcome his new cousin, who he takes an instant dislike to. But, there’s no denying the instant chemistry between him and Faye, nor their soul-deep connection. Davis writes sexual tension that’s off the charts and I found myself rooting for this couple even as I shuddered at their familial connection.
Part Gossip Girl, part Pretty Little Liars, part Kardashians, Finding Kyler is a fun, fast paced, heart wrenching read. Book two, Losing Kyler, debuts in March and I’m already eagerly anticipating it. 4 Stars. Heat Level: 3.5
