Indie Authors High On My To Read & Review List

I’ve learned the hard way how difficult it is to maintain two blogs, while reading at least two books at a time, trying to review books read, and…yeah go to work. The good news for me is come June I’ll be a full-time blogger/reviewer as I take a break from the classroom setting. I’m super excited to have the opportunity to focus on so many great indie authors and their books. Here’s a short list of what’s coming up in the next couple of months.

1.  Cheap Guitars by Mara Miller

How often do two people have a second chance to get it right?

Elise and Brandon are two friends secretly in love with each other, but fear and uncertainties tore them apart before either of them could declare their feelings. Elise made a hasty decision to run, taking nothing with her but her new husband and Brandon’s old guitar. Neither thought their paths would cross again until Elise was forced to move back into town four years later minus a husband or any career prospects.

Will they allow old mistakes to keep them apart or will they finally set aside their differences and pride to find a way back to each other?

2. Smoke and MirrorZ by Cynthia Lucas

A woman on the run….in fear for her life A down on his luck genie with an attitude working as a carnival magician. With limited powers and his own existence in serious danger, can he find the love in his heart and the power in his soul to save her?

3. Blood From a Stone by Cynthia Lucas

What happens when Samson Bellmaine, a wealthy, handsome womanizer in the year 1511, breaks the heart and trust of a young lady who’d been his friend since childhood? He soon finds himself cursed by her angry, pagan priestess mother, and is now doomed to sit out an endless existence as a stone gargoyle…his body as cold and devoid of love as the heart that beat inside his once-human chest.

Awakening only once every fifty years for one month’s time, and after searching to no avail for the cure that will break the seemingly unbreakable spell, he’s grown content to spend his short time as a man enjoying all the marvels and hedonistic pleasures the modern world has to offer; first in his native Europe, and then in America where he’d settled to sit out the long decades atop an old church.

The year is 2011 and upon Awakening, Samson soon meets Willow Dalton…a smart, pretty nurse who works in the children’s ward of a local hospital. As love warms his heart, and he discovers a mysterious side-effect of his condition; one that may hold the key to his freedom and may also cause him to lose her forever, he is now in a race against time…determined to stay at her side, and daring to hope that after five centuries he will finally find a way to break the curse before next full moon rises and he’s turned from man to stone once more.

4. Liberty Divided by Alicia Dean

One man can fulfill her destiny…the other can fulfill her fantasy.

To quell the rise of evil vampires, Liberty Van Helsing must embrace her newfound Hunter destiny. But she has a great deal to learn, and Eli Barkley—the vampire who has been teaching her—has already betrayed her once. Her goal is to shut Eli out of her life and become a better hunter on her own—and to focus on her new romance with hot Australian, Ryan Kelly, a human she can trust.

But when a rogue vampire begins savagely killing young women, the authorities insist Liberty work with Eli to find the murderer. Liberty must overlook Eli’s epic betrayal and find a way to get along with him if they are to stop the unknown maniac and protect innocent lives.

Yet, the more time Liberty spends with Eli, the more her unwanted attraction to him grows. She starts to question her feelings for Ryan—are they real, or could Eli be ‘the one?’ As Eli and Liberty delve further into the murders, clues surface that point to Eli as the culprit. Can she trust him now? Or will she have to plunge a stake into his heart, breaking her own, just when she’s learning to believe in him again?

5. Delayed Justice by Constance Bretes

Can two former lovers set aside their differences and work together to bring a criminal to justice?

Five years ago, Sami Parker’s life was changed forever when she was injured in a bombing incident which left another young woman dead—a woman who happened to be the fiancée of Sheriff Makeeta Robertson, Sami’s former lover. Initially, Sami was a suspect in the crime, but the sheriff was forced to release her due to a lack of evidence. The town, convinced that she got away with murder, turned against her.

At last an arrest has been made and the sheriff needs Sami’s help to get a conviction, but can she trust him? Although wary and cautious, she wants to see this man brought to justice and wants to clear her own name once and for all. But the awakening feelings she has for Makeeta bring yet another problem. Then there’s the secret she’s kept for the last five years—one she may not be able to keep any longer, and one that may change the outcome of the trial.

6. Secrets of the Elusive Lover by Mike Wells

Every woman knows an Adam. He’s a “player,” the type who professes true love, but with eyes that never stop wandering. He always has the perfect excuse when you find that long strand of blonde hair stuck to his collar, and fidgets whenever you get near his computer. Adam can’t fool Bethany, who, despite her better judgment, falls head over heels for him. Bethany is far more intelligent and strong-willed than Adam bargains for, and he finds himself smitten, too. Hilarious at times and poignant at others, Secrets of the Elusive Lover explores the age old challenge of obtaining the unattainable man, and the paradoxical issues surrounding monogamous relationships.

7. First There Wasn’t, Then There Was by Troy Blackford

Four young men have noticed a peculiar man wandering around the streets downtown where they work, muttering to himself with a trashbag slung over his shoulder. After one of them hatches a plan to capture the strange old man’s words, the group quickly realize that the fellow has seen and done things that defy the imagination.

A metaphysical tale of action and adventure that takes you beyond the bounds of normal human experience and into a world of secret colors and hidden doorways, of uncoiling panthers and recoiling nailguns, ‘First There Wasn’t, Then There Was’ is a novella unlike any other.

8. Lady in the Mist by Winter Frost

Clinton Breckenridge is a brooding man used to getting his own way, and he’s not convinced Lily is the right person to help his troubled younger brother.

Even as Lily starts picking up the pieces of Andrew’s tortured psyche and finding out his dark secrets, another mystery looms before her. Andrew’s lover has gone missing in recent months and no one knows what has happened to her, or if her voice has joined those of the other Breckenridge women. Before she knows it, Lily finds herself in danger—thrust directly into the eye of the raging storm.

9. Sanguine Veritas by Michelle Hazen

What if vampires could taste your true nature in your blood? Would it bring you peace or sorrow, to know the truth?

This short story starts with Damon and Elena sharing blood in the bathroom of the Grill in 04×02 Memorial. After that, everything changes as Elena tastes the blood of both Salvatores and faces some hard choices about herself and the boys she thought she knew so well.

Sensual and bitter, this story will overtake you.
