I may have had a slight obsession with her…

Nobody was more disappointed in how I was playing this year than me. I thought I’d overcome that party guy reputation I’d earned in my first few years as a pro hockey player, but even my parents were on my case wondering if I’d slid back into those old ways. I was worried about my career and feeling more and more down. The bright spot in my life? The Twitter flirtation I’d been having with pop music star Jordyn Banks. I may have had a slight obsession with her…

I had to take the bet…

My music career was taking off—first album hit #1 on Billboard, Best New Artist award, and I was all set to start recording my second album. I was exhausted, but it was worth it. My favorite thing to do when I had a bit of down time was watch hockey. I cheered for L.A. now but I had a soft spot for the Chicago Aces, since I grew up in Chicago. When Chase Hartman, a winger for the Aces, made a bet with me on Twitter on a game between our favorite teams, I had to take the bet. It was all in fun. But my team lost, and I owed Chase…a date.

I wanted to see her again…

It was the best date I’d ever had. I thought Jordyn felt the same. But when I told her I wanted to see her again, she turned me down. Our fans were going crazy over our very public “relationship”—Jordyn saw the date as a PR stunt. I was crushed and pissed. Until I watched her perform on TV a few nights later—then I was worried.

I hadn’t been honest with him…

Chase kept contacting me to see if I was okay. I felt bad for not answering him because I hadn’t been honest with him—he was the nicest, hottest guy I’d ever met. Now the careers that meant everything to both of us were on the line. Maybe we could help each other through this…but what if getting our careers back on track meant the end of anything between us?

Playing Hurt is available July 2018, but you can get caught up with the Chicago Aces before then!
